Leader of the Liberal Democrat official opposition on the County Council respondes to Police Commissioners first 100 days

by admin on 5 March, 2013

The Leader of the Liberal Democrat Official Opposition at Northamptonshire County Council has responded to the Conservative Police Commissioner’s first 100 days in post.

Cllr Glynane, who is a member of the Police and Crime Panel, said “Our Conservative PCC should be a lot less proud of his record and listen to the Liberal Democrats if he really wants to make our streets safer. So far the signs are not encouraging. His first act was to tell existing staff there was no money, before promptly appointing members of his campaign team to taxpayer funded £65k a year jobs.”

“The Conservative Police Commissioner then slashed cash for frontline policing, meaning that Northamptonshire has 45 fewer frontline police officers than if the previous budget had been stuck to. Not content with cutting frontline policing and giving jobs to the boys and girls, he then attempted to orchestrate a takeover of the Fire service without any consultation at all. This was so unacceptable that even senior Conservative politicians expressed their opposition!”

“In Northamptonshire it is the Liberal Democrats who are fighting to make our streets safer, whilst the Conservatives at County Hall switch off our streetlights and slash frontline policing. The Conservative PCC has shown that he is on the side of County Hall Tories and not local people with his cuts to cash for 45 police officers and £800k police commission stuffed with party appointees.”
